CASTRATION ACTION IN PALEOKASTRO (GR)

01 May 2017

A large population of stray dogs has been established in a fenced-in landfill and the operators of the landfill are desperately asking for the vets in Action. A serious health problem is looming for everyone concerned.

Our traps didn’t work for the dogs, as they were able to find enough food at the landfill. So they had to be stunned through the use of anesthetic arrows. The animals were able to see through this strategy relatively quickly and soon they were keeping their distance from our employees.

Despite the difficult conditions, we have managed to neuter, vaccinate and treat against parasites more than half of the population. In addition, we have also taken care of the stray and farm dogs in the villages situated around the landfill.

In total, almost 200 animals have been neutered and provided with medical care. The vets have also accomplished much in raising awareness through direct conversation with the local people as well as a school visit by our Greek employee.
