Stray Bianca: Bianca has lived in an olive grove by the sea in southern Italy for many years. Eight years ago the dog was spayed; her current age is estimated to be around ten years. The locals feeding the dog notice it is suffering from wound and we have to capture Bianca to check her.

On closer inspection, the wound turns out to be a large tumor that can be easily removed surgically.

Healing is going very well and we are able to bring Bianca back to her grounds after only a few days.

Normally, Bianca would have been gone on suffering since animals like her rarely get treatment. With the help of the vets in action, Bianca is able to have a good quality of life and recover in Poggiardo. Afterwards, she is allowed to return to freedom in her olive grove.

Moritz, an abandoned dog: The old Moritz wanders blind and unwanted along a road in Poggiardo. With a chain around his neck, it is reasonable to assume that the dog has been abandoned and simply left to his fate instead of being taken to the vet.

A checkup confirm his old age, a case of severe malnutrition and an infection with Leishmania. With good care and the appropriate therapy, he recovers quickly and finds his footing in a now well-known environment.

Unfortunately, however, it is practically impossible to find a place to care for such an animal which is why Moritz will probably have to stay in our shelter in Poggiardo. With your support, we are very happy to have the opportunity to offer animals like Moritz a home at the sunset of their life.

An accident for Jule: The little stray Jule was in an accident and is found on the road. If someone hasn't alerted our team, the animal will have suffered an ordeal for days, eventually dying of thirst or as a result of the infection.

Jule is operated immediately and we manage to save the leg from being amputated.

Fortunately, the nerves are less damaged than we fear. The feeling to the limb has returned and Jule is able to use her leg again. She has been given the chance to recover where she would not have had one without our help.

A little stray with a breast tumor: During the castration campaign in Nea Moudania, this very friendly stray is captured in the neighbouring village and brought to us. But the little one needs more than neutering and vaccination...

She has a tumor the size of a fist. It will soon cause her problems if it is not removed.

The operation lasts longer, combining neutering and the removal of the growth.

Luckily, both operation and recovery go well. She is allowed to recover under the care of a volunteer and then she is returned to her place.

Rusty: Thrown out of a moving car late at night, little Rusty is not seriously injured, but is terribly miserable about his fate.

Marco: April 25th is a public holiday in Italy and little Marco is found in the middle of the road as many cars simply drove past him. Eventually, a woman bravely stops the heavy traffic and pulls the injured dog to the side of the road.

Nero: Nero simply disappeared from home one day, perhaps as a result of a neighbor’s nefarious involvement. When the family picks him up, they immediately agree to have him castrated and the two girls are overjoyed to be reunited with their friend Nero.

Barney: Barney was in an accident and is expected to return to the street where people know him after his wounds has healed. But the vet diagnoses him with a serious heart disease, so he will stay in Poggiardo in the future.

Ulisse: Poor Ulisse is picked up by the dog catcher, because a tumor on his abdomen that weighs 8 kg has left him completely starved and dehydrated. He is recovering well from the operation and will make a great friend to a human.

Victoria: In Victoria's family, the young daughter falls ill and no one cares anymore about the shepherd dog, who is suffering from Leishmaniasis. Her many wounds are already so badly infected that she almost dies of blood poisoning.

Uccio: The old dog Uccio is almost blind, has bad osteoarthritis, bad fur and all sorts of pain. He must have lost his orientation and is found wandering on the roundabout. He, too, is one of the older animals that cannot be sent back to the streets because of his needs.
