Sometimes good luck comes to us just when we need it. This is the case for Brownie.

One month later, Brownie stops eating. He seems resigned, doesn’t interact with humans or dogs. He is quietly wasting away. We get a call with a request to examine him in our clinic. 

We suspect that someone shot the dog some time ago and that there are now small shotgrains lodged in his body.

It also becomes clear that Brownie is really very old indeed. Most likely, he used to be someone’s hunting dog and like many of his brothers and sisters, he was abandoned when he could no longer work.

We find a scar on his right hip that seems freshly closed and a hard, small swelling.

But beneath the seemingly healing wound we find a nasty surprise – a huge abscess that has been poisoning Brownie slowly but surely.

After ten minutes of blood and pus drainage, the wound is clean. Gladly, there is no foreign body in there, so we are grateful for this small blessing.

Brownie stays with us for six days, during which his wound is cleaned up and treated daily until it closes, healthy this time.

The old boy has visits from his saviors every single day – his friends want to show him he is loved and there is a place where he is welcome.

At the end of his treatment, Brownie is ready to leave our clinic in good spirits and with excellent appetite. He is able to use his injured leg without trouble.
