All animals are worthy of being protected and cared for by organizations such as Vets in Action. If an animal is in acute distress or danger, our work is particularly important and often life-saving.

The homeless dog Hector has been living near the Greek village of Ofryani for around a year, where he spends most of his time on the beach. In addition to his friendly appearance, he has a wonderful character despite a difficult past, is trusting and respects boundaries.

It is therefore not surprising that he caught the eye of Bulgarian couple Ivo and Dorothy, who have been looking after him ever since. The couple own a property in the village, where they spend most of their weekends. Hector always receives plenty of food and affection during this time.

But Hector suddenly disappears. After two weeks, he returns in a terrible state; he is limping and obviously in pain. Ivo and Dorothy are particularly worried about his absence because some of the local street dogs have been found dead. The clear cause of death: poison.

Hector's guardians find it too dangerous to expose him to unsafe street life any longer. As he needs immediate medical help anyway, they bring him to us.

We examine his leg; it appears to be dislocated. We also carry out several blood tests and neuter him.

After the x-ray, it is clear that Hector needs a splint and must be supervised. The brave fighter will therefore have to accept some movement restrictions.

The results of the blood test show that Hector also suffers from heart filariasis. All this speaks in favor of our decision to no longer expect him to live on the streets. 

It is not only health reasons that require treatment and care - there is also a risk that he will be injured or even killed by animal haters. We will never let that happen!

Even if reality paints a different picture - every animal has the right to live in safety and security. We are confident that we will soon find a home for Hector - a home where he will be protected and loved for the rest of his life. He deserves it!
