Farewell Bernhard Bader

Vets in Action came into contact with Bernhard Bader back in 2000. He applied for a position in the campaign work of a large animal welfare organization with which we were also involved. He had an unusual CV.

In 2000, single fathers were still a rarity and his career as a truck driver did not necessarily qualify him for animal welfare campaigns. But Bernhard was, as it turned out during the interview, exceptionally clever, warm and a great nature lover. He immediately understood what things were about and always had productive and, above all, pragmatic solutions. If you were upset about something, all you had to do was talk to Bernhard - things calmed down immediately and a good solution was found. These solutions were always fair for everyone involved and characterized by respect for everyone. He was also able to resolve difficult situations easily and without collateral damage thanks to his calm and logical way of thinking.

He took over the management of the foundation for a few months during a crisis situation and joined the Board of Trustees of Vets in Action in 2016. He personally visited all the projects at the time and was particularly involved in our Italy project on a voluntary basis and with a great deal of personal enthusiasm.

We are extremely sad that Bernhard has left us. He still had many plans - including for the benefit of Vets in Action - and was determined to beat his serious illness. Unfortunately, he did not succeed. We will always remember him fondly and we will probably ask ourselves many times: What would Bernhard have done in this situation?

We would like to take this opportunity to express our heartfelt condolences to his two children. Bernhard has a place of honor in our personal memories as well as in the history of the Vets in Action.
